Saturday 10 October – Barcelona

The anarchist toaster was replaced with a timid one that needed lots of encouragement to do its work.

Jo brought back some pastries from the shop on the corner.

Want to buy a carton of gazpacho? I go into a supermarket looking for chocolate milk do not find it but find many flavours of yoghurt and blended vegetables. Am I being judged for my poor attitude to the collective good, by indulging in selfish food that will put a strain on the healthcare system later? The contrast between individual and collective identity manifests in many forms.

The supermarket wine here is cheap, much cheaper than our Aldi, and many of our carton drinks.

I eventually find the chocolate milk in a corner with the UHT next to the beer.

I wonder if the prevalence of UHT milk is simply practical, or it is some kind of mass celebration of the works of Louis Pasteur that because we’ve invented this Great Scientific Advance, we take it to extremes and give up fresh milk. Either way I think they got it wrong on this count.

I stop for a moment at a local artisanal producer.

Jo and Hugh go to the soccer.

Trinity and I have a Daddy Daughter Date night.
